The press are ‘at it’ again, despite the Leveson inquiry into press standards, they are trying to get John Terry sacked from the England captaincy ahead of his trial. They are using headline banners describing him as ‘toxic’ even though the reference came from a player describing the SITUATION as toxic, regarding the should they or shouldn’t they shake hands drama. In advance of every major tournament that England play, the press whip up a scandal regarding the manager or a senior player, in an apparent bid to destroy the team’s preparations. It has happened in recent years to Sven, Terry, Capello and Rooney at least.
I am not in possession of all the facts regarding Terry’s case, but I did notice that he was standing next to Didier Drogba when the alleged incident occurred. It strikes me that he would have to be very brave or foolish to racially abuse someone by calling them a black **** whilst standing next to a fearsome character like Drogba. Neither Drogba’s facial expression nor his body language revealed any sense of anger or outrage whilst witnessing the exchange , so I suspect that JT may well be innocent, but that is just an informed guess at this moment. If found guilty then in football terms he should suffer the same punishment as Liverpool’s Luis Suarez who was found guilty by an independent FA disciplinary hearing of repeatedly racially abusing Patrice Evra.
A simple question though. Why can’t the press allow the judicial system to do its job regarding Terry? Not for the first time, they could be putting an innocent man through hell and wrongly tarnishing his name!
